Living lightly in Tāmaki Makaurau

Living lightly is not a new idea in either tradition. Indian households have practised it for generations without naming it — the ghee tin that becomes a spice tin, the sari that becomes a quilt, the kitchen that wastes almost nothing. Aotearoa holds it as kaitiakitanga: care for a place, carried as a responsibility. This afternoon sits where the two meet.

The Aotearoa Sustainability Grid works with South Asian and new-migrant households across Tāmaki Makaurau on waste-free living — work that tends to begin, practically enough, in the kitchen.
