WHY
Living lightly is not a new idea in either tradition. Indian households have practised it for generations without naming it — the ghee tin that becomes a spice tin, the sari that becomes a quilt, the kitchen that wastes almost nothing. Aotearoa holds it as kaitiakitanga: care for a place, carried as a responsibility. This afternoon sits where the two meet.
THE AFTERNOON
The Aotearoa Sustainability Grid works with South Asian and new-migrant households across Tāmaki Makaurau on waste-free living — work that tends to begin, practically enough, in the kitchen. Expect conversation, practical ideas to take home, light refreshments, and company that takes the subject seriously without being solemn about it. The full programme follows.
